Aegirine with Quartz Crystals
SKU: 2008-0012
|
Overview
Aegirine has an alternate name and is listed in some guides as Acmite, which comes from the Greek word for point. The name Aegirine is after the Teutonic god of the sea, Aegir, and was given when the first specimens of the mineral were discovered in Norway. It is completely opaque but thin splinters and edges are translucent and typically show a nice green color. This specimen has a nicely terminated Quartz crystal with a small, terminated twin sitting next to it. Chemistry is NaFeSi2O6 , which makes it a Sodium, Iron, Silicate. Class: Silicates, Subclass: Inosilicates, Group: Pyroxenes
